Christian Fauria Critiques Deion Sanders Ahead of Fourth Year as Head Coach
Christian Fauria, a former star tight end for the Colorado Buffaloes and two-time Super Bowl champion, recently expressed his criticisms of Deion Sanders as Sanders heads into his fourth year as the team’s head coach.
In an appearance on “The Zach Gelb Show,” Fauria didn’t hold back regarding Sanders’ coaching style. Sanders, who came to the University of Colorado after a successful stint at Jackson State, had Travis Hunter win the Heisman Trophy in 2024 under his guidance.
Fauria stated, “I’m just not a fan of Coach. I’m not. I’m never going to be a fan of Coach.” He emphasized his passion for the university, saying, “I love this school. Just because I’m criticizing a coach doesn’t mean I’m targeting Sanders specifically. I’ve had worse coaches in my career, but I don’t appreciate his approach to coaching football.”
Continuing, he elaborated, “I don’t think he’s particularly bright or able to control the game effectively. There’s a lot of style, but I don’t see much depth. It’s almost like some people are blindly following him. We’ll see how things pan out, but I’m simply not sold on him.”
Fauria admitted his frustration that numerous alumni don’t voice similar concerns, stating, “It bothers me that many alumni keep quiet about this. I, however, will speak up.”
Under Sanders, Colorado State boasts a record of 16-21 in three seasons. Although the team had a solid 9-4 record in 2024, the 2025 season saw a significant decline with only three wins.
Fauria expressed a desire for the team to focus more on winning games rather than seeking attention on social media, reflecting a sentiment that resonates with many sports fans.
As the Buffaloes gear up for their 2026 season, which kicks off on September 5th against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the program’s direction under Sanders remains a topic of debate.
