Long Island man kills wife and wounds teenager in Farmingville, according to police

A 46-year-old woman lost her life, and a teenage boy was injured during a failed murder-suicide after a domestic dispute at a Long Island residence last week, as reported by authorities.

According to police, on Thursday night, 57-year-old Marcos Real attacked his estranged wife, Adriana Barbosa, 46, and assaulted a teenage girl in their Farmingville home before attempting to take his own life. Remarkably, Real survived the incident.

The grim events unfolded shortly after 8:15 p.m. when a 911 call detailed a domestic situation escalating dangerously at their home on Granny Road.

When police arrived, they discovered a horrific scene with Barbosa and Real suffering from stab wounds, along with the injured teenage relative, whose relationship to the couple remains unclear.

Barbosa was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, but sadly, doctors could not save her, and she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.

The injured boy was also taken to a hospital but was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not provided further details regarding his connection to the couple.

Meanwhile, Real, despite his suicide attempt, was hospitalized with serious injuries and is now facing charges including murder, criminal contempt, and endangering a child.

While the investigation is still ongoing, it’s unclear what specifically triggered this tragic event. Real is currently recuperating in the hospital and is expected to be arraigned at a future date.
