Father Arrested for Alleged Stabbing of Infant in Pennsylvania

A 44-year-old father was taken into custody last week in Pennsylvania under suspicion of stabbing his 3-month-old baby.

The Coatesville Police Department, alongside the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, confirmed the arrest of Michael Phillips, who faces serious charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault after allegedly stabbing his child in the abdomen.

According to an affidavit from Detective Corporal Kurt Geyer, the child’s mother, Dominic Ciarini, reported that Phillips indicated he needed to “sacrifice” their baby. This shocking comment came while she was in the bedroom with their child.

She recalled, “The mother was in the bedroom with her 3-month-old child when the defendant stared blankly at her and made comments about having to sacrifice the baby.”

Phillips reportedly approached her with a knife, attempting to stab the infant multiple times, but only managed to do so once before fleeing the scene with the baby in his arms. In a frantic moment, she urged her 9-year-old son to seek help. Phillips followed her outside, grabbing the baby forcefully and throwing her into the snow, where, disturbingly, he appeared to lay on top of her.

The young infant sustained “at least one deep puncture wound to the abdomen,” while the mother suffered injuries to her fingers, as stated in the affidavit.

The mother expressed her concerns, suggesting that Phillips exhibited “psychotic symptoms” and had a known history of substance abuse. She recounted, “I saw the defendant holding the baby’s legs with a knife in his hand, and that’s when I picked up the baby. The defendant then began stabbing the baby.”

Phillips allegedly exclaimed statements like, “This was all part of God’s plan” and “I did it, God, I did it,” during the incident.

After the attack, the baby was transported to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition. As of the latest update, her current status remains unclear.
