Immigration Enforcement Focuses on Child Predators and Violent Offenders

As federal immigration efforts continue across the United States, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is keeping a close eye on domestic child sex offenders, treating them as illegal immigrants.

During the recent President’s Day weekend, DHS targeted what it calls the “worst of the worst,” arresting individuals involved in offenses such as child grooming, lewd acts with minors, child pornography, domestic violence, and drug trafficking.

“The dedicated personnel at ICE have arrested violent illegal aliens across the nation who have been convicted of heinous crimes including child sex offenses and drug trafficking,” stated DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “These offenders will no longer pose a threat to children or innocent Americans.”

McLaughlin also noted that nearly 70 percent of individuals apprehended by ICE are undocumented immigrants with prior criminal charges or convictions in the U.S. “There’s nothing preventing ICE from removing them from our communities,” she added.

ICE Raids Surge Amid Political Tensions

In recent weeks, ICE raids reportedly increased by 1,500%, coinciding with tougher political stances aimed at exposing DHS operations.

Some of those apprehended over the weekend had previous allegations related to child sexual offenses. For instance, Efren Guzmán López, a Guatemalan national, was caught in Texas after being convicted of child grooming. Another individual, Javier Milan Salgado from Mexico, was arrested in California and has a record of sex offenses involving a minor under 14.

Additionally, several arrests occurred in California for allegations of sexual activities with minors, while an illegal alien named Pedro Jukubu was taken into custody in Missouri for misconduct involving a child under 15. Similar patterns emerged from arrests in New York and Salt Lake City.

Drug Trafficking and Assaults on the Rise

DHS’s crackdown on what they identify as the “worst of the worst” also captured individuals involved in drug trafficking and various assaults. The agency has made arrests related to these activities involving criminals from Honduras and Mexico, spanning multiple regions across the Midwest and East Coast.

ICE detained individuals such as Alfredo Vargas and Wilfried Barreras-Rubio from Mexico, both convicted of methamphetamine trafficking. Another arrested individual, Ever Rivera Molina from Honduras, was caught after being implicated in drug distribution.

On the East Coast, Hermilio Salgado Castro was apprehended in Raleigh, North Carolina, for prior conspiracy charges related to cocaine distribution. Saul Alonzo Portillo Lopez, meanwhile, was arrested in Texas and has a conviction for marijuana distribution.

Crimes listed in ICE’s reports also include felonies, domestic violence, stalking, and assaults with deadly weapons.

Focused Efforts by DHS

Among those taken into custody, Gerson Valverde from Nicaragua was arrested in New York for felony assault and stalking charges. Francisco Gamez Martinez from Mexico also faced ICE apprehension for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Florida.

DHS has introduced a website at WOW.DHS.Gov aimed at informing the public about safety threats linked to apprehensions in their neighborhoods.

The website emphasizes, “DHS is concentrating on the most egregious criminal aliens apprehended by ICE,” and aligns its mission with broader immigration enforcement goals under current leadership.
