Erewhon and Function introduce the ‘Healthiest Smoothie’ with 160 lab tests to support its claims.

Erewhon and Function introduce the 'Healthiest Smoothie' with 160 lab tests to support its claims.

Move over, Hailey Bieber—Erewhon has introduced a new $25 status symbol, and it seems to have some data-driven claims backing it up.

The popular grocery chain is teaming up with the tech wellness startup Function to unveil “The World’s Healthiest Smoothie?” This year-long collaboration is intended to reshape what we actually consider “health.”

Beginning today, this drink will be available in glass bottles across all Erewhon stores in Southern California until February 2027. According to the creators, it’s not just another superfood blend.

Described as a “biohacker in a bottle,” the smoothie has been crafted by Function co-founder and longevity expert Dr. Mark Hyman. It aims to address real nutritional gaps identified in Function’s extensive member database, which indicates that over 65% of members have fasting insulin levels outside the healthy range and 54% exhibit elevated apolipoprotein B, a critical marker of heart health.

In light of these findings, the companies have formulated a 20-ingredient meal replacement blend that focuses on improving microbiome health, balancing inflammation, stabilizing blood sugar, and enhancing metabolic function.

This smoothie doesn’t lean on “aesthetics only” superfoods or gimmicks but rather features intentional ingredients. The robust lineup includes unsweetened almond milk, flax and chia seeds, green bananas, wild blueberries, pomegranates, cranberries, arugula, fresh herbs, walnuts, cold-pressed beet juice, ginger, Ceylon cinnamon, MCT oil, blended omega oils, BCAAs, creatine, and a plant protein sourced from Chocho beans in the Andean highlands.

In a space often characterized by superfood trends and generic claims, Function co-founder and CEO Jonathan Swerdlin believes it’s time for a shift in perspective.

“This isn’t just another item on the shelf,” Swerdlin explains. “We’re questioning the notion that ‘health’ can be simplified to a mere label.”

He adds, “There are no shortcuts,” emphasizing the brand’s commitment to genuine health improvement.

Each bottle comes equipped with a QR code that offers buyers a $25 discount on a Function membership. The idea? Don’t just drink it; actually measure your health.
