Judge takes decisive action against former teacher who sexually abused two students and became pregnant by one of them

Former Teacher Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of Students

A former teacher who was found guilty of sexually abusing two students, one of whom became pregnant, has received her sentence.

Julie Rizzitello, a 37-year-old ex-teacher at Wall High School in New Jersey, was sentenced to ten years in state prison last week after being convicted of child sexual crimes. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office shared the news on Thursday.

During the sentencing, Judge Jill G. O’Malley outlined additional consequences for Rizzitello. These include lifelong parole supervision, registering as a sex offender under Megan’s Law, a permanent ban from teaching, and a no-contact order with the victim.

Monmouth County Attorney Raymond S. Santiago emphasized the severity of her actions, stating that these crimes were not mere lapses in judgment but rather systematic grooming involving manipulation and control.

Wall Township Police Chief Sean O’Halloran commended the bravery of those who came forward to report the abuse, noting that speaking out can be exceptionally challenging when the perpetrator is someone trusted by the victims.

Rizzitello had pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree sexual assault in September. She was arrested on July 3, 2024, at her home in Brick Township.

Prosecutors indicated that Rizzitello developed a friendly rapport with one victim when he was a freshman and the other when he was a junior. Over a span of months, this relationship deteriorated into sexual encounters, including sexual intercourse.

These acts primarily took place at Rizzitello’s home, in a car in Wall Township, and at a bagel shop owned by her family, where both victims worked.

Investigators reported that Rizzitello encouraged the victims to erase any evidence of their encounters from their electronic devices.

A court report presented during the hearing revealed that Rizzitello claimed to a victim that she was unable to get pregnant after they had unprotected sex on her birthday in January 2018. However, weeks later, she requested the victim to come over for a pregnancy test, which confirmed she was pregnant, leading to an abortion.

Judge O’Malley expressed concern for the victim, noting that not only must he cope with being groomed and abused by someone he trusted, but he also has to come to terms with the abortion that emotionally impacted him.

The emotional and psychological scars of these actions were highlighted by the judge, who described the situation as a tragedy.

Meanwhile, one of the victims shared a statement in court, recalling Rizzitello as someone he had trusted implicitly, only to realize later that he was a target of her predatory behavior.

In response, Rizzitello expressed remorse in court, acknowledging the pain she caused to her family, friends, and students, and stating her desire to change her choices.

Rizzitello, married with two young children, faces the consequences of her actions, and her attorney sought a lesser sentence, citing her lack of a criminal history and the impact a lengthy prison term would have on her family.

However, the attorney also acknowledged that the children would have to bear significant responsibilities at a young age due to their mother’s actions.
