CBS Should Not Submit to Trump — It Always Backfires

Rep. Jasmine Crockett Critiques CBS Decision on Talarico Interview

During a segment on MS NOW’s “The Briefing” Tuesday, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) expressed her discontent with CBS’s decision not to air an interview with Texas Rep. James Tallarico. She claimed the move was influenced by the Trump administration and invoked the Federal Communications Commission’s equal time rules.

Jen Psaki, the host, mentioned CBS’s statement regarding the show, noting that legal advice led to the decision, particularly concerning equal time regulations that could involve other candidates, including Crockett herself. Psaki asked for Crockett’s thoughts on that rationale.

Crockett responded, saying she had received a call earlier in the day informing her that CBS had been advised they could proceed with Tallarico’s interview, as long as they offered her equivalent airtime. “I haven’t heard anything from Colbert’s team about appearing on the show,” she added, reflecting on her previous appearances. She noted that she was currently focusing on her campaign in Texas and felt uncertain about the situation.

“We’ve never really had issues with Colbert. Even when it comes to shows like ‘The View,’ these FCC complaints seem to take longer than my time there post-announcement,” she remarked. She emphasized that the situation seemed strategic and mentioned being wary of the motives behind the show’s decisions.

Further, Crockett discussed how more viewership could be garnered by resisting certain narratives, suggesting that a lack of action might make it appear as if they were submissive to the powers at play, particularly regarding the current presidential administration.
