Wyatt Teller’s Farewell to Cleveland
It’s not every day you come across an All-Pro caliber guard.
Wyatt Teller, an offensive lineman for the Browns, shared a heartfelt farewell message that suggests he won’t be returning to Cleveland. As he is about to become an unrestricted free agent, the team has voided the last year of his contract.
Once a fan favorite who played a key role in supporting Nick Chubb’s success, Teller is now exploring new opportunities and could have a lot of interest as a free agent.
“Putting into words how I wish things had turned out differently is tough,” Teller expressed in an Instagram post featuring his wife and children.
Reflecting on his journey, he said, “When Buffalo traded me to Cleveland seven years ago, I never imagined how much this city would come to mean to me. Ultimately, the Browns took a chance on me, and it changed my life forever.”
Last season, Teller faced some challenges as he started rotating with guard Teven Jenkins due to a calf injury by Week 13, which kept him sidelined at times.
If the Browns let Teller go after June 1, they would clear around $2.1 million in salary cap space as they aim to rejuvenate the team under newly appointed head coach Todd Monken.
Cleveland faces other significant decisions regarding its offensive line, including veterans Joel Bitonio and Jack Conklin. Conklin is heading towards free agency, while Bitonio is contemplating retirement.
At just 31 years old, Teller should still have a chance at securing a starting position elsewhere, though he’ll need to maintain good health for that to happen.
Regardless of where he lands, it’s clear that Cleveland has a special place in his heart.
Teller was brought in through a trade with the Bills before the 2019 season, contributing to 101 games in his seven seasons with the Browns, starting 94 of those.
“I’ve formed friendships and connections on and off the field that will endure well beyond football,” Teller added. “Our family feels incredibly blessed and is thankful to everyone in Northeast Ohio for the love and support over these past seven years.”
Ranked alongside Tyler Linderbaum as one of the top free agents in the NFL, Teller stands out, as Pro Bowl-level linemen rarely become available. Teams like the Giants, Eagles, and Vikings may be in the market for his talents.
Pro Football Focus ranked Teller as the 39th best guard in the league last season, but he hasn’t received a “good” rating (above 70) since 2023.
