Why Would the President Neglect America’s Southern Border?
It seems that the left often reacts strongly against anyone who suggests that the Biden administration’s policies have encouraged illegal immigration to gain new supporters for its agenda, which doesn’t seem to resonate with the public. Critics of open borders are frequently labeled as racist conspiracy theorists championing what some call the “Great Replacement Theory.”
However, it’s worth remembering that for years, many on the left have been publishing affirmative works with titles like “The Emerging Democratic Majority,” often claiming that “Demography is destiny.” A handful of left-leaning globalists have even dreamed of a borderless world where people can live freely wherever they choose.
Recently, Texas Representative Gene Wham, D-Houston, brought to light a rarely discussed aspect of the Democratic agenda. He stated, “The day Latinos, African Americans, Asians, and other communities recognize they share the same oppressors is the day we begin to win, because we are now the majority in this country. We can take control and do what’s needed for everyone.”
This strategy of utilizing illegal immigration is also evident in Europe, where a growing number of immigrants is dramatically changing demographics and political dynamics. (Related: Maryland’s new bill means ‘more victims’ for immigrant criminals, DHS warns)
In a recent outburst, Spain’s former “Equality Minister” Irene Montero expressed her desire for a “replacement theory,” aiming to “wipe out this country of fascists and racists with immigrants, regardless of their skin color, whether they are Chinese, black, or brown.”
Under the Biden administration, the situation at the southern border reached unprecedented levels, with daily illegal crossings sometimes exceeding 10,000 individuals. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas occasionally claimed, with a level of confidence that felt almost farcical, that the border was “secure,” while thousands continued to surge in without any health checks, let alone basic background investigations.
The political agenda regarding illegal immigration seeks to undermine the integrity of voting, distorting the way U.S. House districts are apportioned based on census data. This helps explain the fervent opposition from Democrats to basic voting requirements like showing a photo ID—despite support from polls, including those traditionally liberal like Gallup and Pew, showing that 83% of Americans back such measures. While the left often hails European systems, there’s a conspicuous silence concerning the fact that 46 out of 47 European nations require ID to vote, even those under leftist governance.
It seems Democrats were banking on the idea that if another 10 million of the world’s poorest entered the country illegally, they would seamlessly integrate into American society without scrutiny or language barriers.
They might think that more states turning blue would be beneficial, resulting in more Congressional seats. In many instances, illegal immigrants were simply redefined as “residents” and, in some cases, became eligible for mail-in ballots.
The result? An increase in impoverished individuals expanding the welfare state, necessitating more government resources, taxes, and furthering a narrative of oppressor versus oppressed. This has raised concerns, especially as seen in the ties between Minnesota Democratic Party officials and a significant Somali welfare fraud case, showcasing how the immigration and welfare systems have been manipulated.
With former President Biden’s policy leading to 10 million new illegal immigrants, estimates suggest that the total could now approach 30 million when combined with existing illegal residents. This adds to the existing population of around 20 million legal foreign nationals and various legal residents.
By the time Trump assumed office in January 2025, the U.S. was admitting a staggering number of foreign-born residents, which now account for around 16% of the population—approximately 53 million people. (Related: Mamdani uses Islam to lecture Americans about immigration, but there’s a problem)
This influx coincided with a shift away from traditional melting-pot values towards a more fragmented identity focus, often disregarding integration and assimilation.
However, the left appears to have drastically underestimated Trump’s potential re-election and his efforts to secure the border and restore a sense of order to federal immigration laws.
Most did not believe that he would actively seek to locate and deport millions of individuals who had settled across states, who often found protection under left-leaning judges and officials.
The left’s only defense against a return to a more structured immigration system lies in the hope that future immigrant voters, such as the 55% of Hispanic men who supported Trump in 2024, will prioritize different criteria over federal rights or ethnic solidarity.
If that scenario unfolds, then the left would likely advocate for border closures.
