World Leaders to Address AI Governance at Summit
The upcoming annual World Artificial Intelligence Summit marks a significant gathering where global leaders will unite to express their collective perspective on artificial intelligence (AI). This meeting is particularly noteworthy because it will be the first of its kind.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced that the UN General Assembly has officially recognized a 40-member body for this initiative, as reported by the AFP news agency.
“Science-led governance will not impede progress,” Guterres emphasized. He believes that by understanding the capabilities and limitations of AI systems, societies can transition from general measures to more thoughtful, risk-based regulations.
He further stated, “Our aim is not merely to make a statement, but to ensure that human oversight becomes a reality in technology.” However, there is some dissent; Michael Crasios, a White House technical advisor and the head of the US mission in India, expressed differing views on the subject.
