Lab Analyzing DNA Collected from Guthrie’s Home
In Tucson, Arizona, two former inmates are under significant scrutiny online related to the ongoing investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, which has now extended into its third week. Interestingly, neither individual has been formally implicated by authorities. One of them had been briefly detained during a police raid but was released without charges, which raises questions.
The two individuals are Luke Daly, aged 36, and Kayla Day, 32. Notably, neither is actively suspected in Guthrie’s case. Day was in custody at the Pima County Adult Detention Center when law enforcement targeted Daly for failing to appear in court regarding an unrelated matter. This large-scale search on February 13 involved numerous police vehicles descending upon the Catalina Foothills neighborhood, as well as the area surrounding a Range Rover at a local restaurant.
Court documents reveal both Daly and Day were arrested in May 2025 in a Walmart parking lot, with Daly facing allegations of drug trafficking and possessing firearms despite a previous felony conviction. When police investigated, they reportedly witnessed what seemed like illegal drug activity mostly involving his vehicle.
As for Day, she was also detained at the same Walmart store alongside a male driver, facing various drug and weapons charges. When officers approached their vehicle, heroin residue was found, leading to their arrest.
A search of the vehicle turned up drug paraphernalia, a loaded handgun, opioid pills, and significant cash. Daly’s trial, previously scheduled for February 24, has been postponed to May 19.
Interestingly, Day has a history of legal troubles, having been arrested earlier in March 2025 for drug-related offenses, including being found unconscious in her car, surrounded by drug paraphernalia. A warrant for her arrest was subsequently issued for missing a court date.
Despite the ongoing investigation, no one has been charged in connection with Nancy Guthrie’s alleged kidnapping. Recently, Pima County deputies and the FBI executed a search warrant at Daly’s residence, resulting in his and his mother’s temporary detention. Both were released without any charges filed. Neighbors reported that Daly was extremely upset about the SWAT operation.
Meanwhile, a description of the suspect in Guthrie’s kidnapping emerged, revealing a male believed to be around 5’9” to 5’10” in height, carrying a black backpack and possibly a firearm. Authorities suspect she was abducted from her home around 2:30 a.m. on February 1. Interestingly, DNA retrieved from a glove found nearby has not matched any entries in the FBI’s criminal database, suggesting it’s not linked to anyone with a notable criminal past, such as Daly or Day.
