U.S. Military Options for Iran Considered

A report suggests that a potential U.S. military action against Iran might focus on specific individuals and aim at changing the regime itself. Two anonymous U.S. officials indicated that these strategies emerged during the planning phases following directives from President Trump. The report did not name specific individuals likely to be targeted, although it hinted that Trump could be one such focus in the year 2020.

This comes in light of a previous incident where Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, was killed in a U.S. attack.

FOX News Digital reached out to the White House for a response. On Friday, Trump mentioned to reporters that he was considering a limited military strike against Iran as leverage to push for negotiations on its nuclear program.

During a press conference, when asked about the possibility of regime change in Iran, Trump remarked that it might be “the best thing that can happen.” Additionally, he suggested that the time for a breakthrough in negotiations with Iran is running short, giving the country about “10 or 15 days” to come to an agreement.

“Either we reach a deal or it’s going to be bad for them,” he stated.

Sources in the Middle East have told FOX that Tehran is aware of the looming threat of conflict and is unlikely to provoke the U.S. at this moment. However, the Iranian leadership is reportedly firm on not accepting any limitations regarding their short-range missile program, identifying it as a crucial point established by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. They believe that yielding on missile development would be perceived domestically as a defeat.

On the other hand, there might be openness concerning uranium enrichment if sanctions relief is part of those discussions.
