Eric Dane, known for his role in “Grey’s Anatomy,” has sadly passed away at 53 after a brave struggle with ALS. Following his death, friends and family have initiated a GoFundMe campaign aimed at supporting his two daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, during this difficult time.
The page, which shares heartfelt messages from those who loved him, emphasizes the challenges the family now faces, especially after Eric’s diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The statement on the campaign reflects the profound loss felt by those around him, describing him as a devoted husband to Rebecca Gayheart and a loving father.
His family hopes the fundraising effort will provide stability for the girls, covering expenses like education and housing. They note that every contribution, regardless of size, is appreciated and will help ensure a secure future for Billie and Georgia.
Even in his declining health, Dane was committed to raising awareness about ALS, using his platform to champion others affected by the disease. The GoFundMe page highlights his advocacy work as a significant part of his legacy.
In a touching interview for Netflix’s “Famous Last Words,” recorded last November, Dane delivered a heartfelt message to his daughters. “I gave it a try. Sometimes I stumbled, but, you know, I gave it a try,” he said, voice trembling. He recounted cherished memories with them, like calling them “water babies” while playing in the ocean, and shared important life lessons, urging them to cherish every moment.
He encouraged his daughters to embrace the present: “All you have is the present. Cherish it.” His reflections on living in the moment stemmed from how ALS changed his perspective on life.
Dane also imparted wisdom about love, advising them to seek genuine connections, whether romantic or through passions, and expressing how acting had been his salvation through tough times. He conveyed how the love he felt sustained him, saying, “My work doesn’t define me, but it excites me.”
As he concluded his message of encouragement, he reminded them to face life’s challenges with integrity. “When something unexpected hits you, face it with honesty, integrity, and grace,” he stressed, maintaining his spirit despite the physical toll of the illness. His final words to Billie and Georgia showcased a father’s enduring love: “Fight, girls, hold your hearts high. You are my heart. You are my everything. Good night. I love you.”
Dane, who married Gayheart in 2004 and separated in 2017 (although their divorce was later called off), passed away on February 19th. His dedication to his daughters and his advocacy for ALS awareness will surely be remembered by those who knew him.
