Lindsey Vonn Reflects on Her Journey After Injury
Despite facing a significant injury and the challenges ahead, Lindsey Vonn remains resolute and without regrets.
The skier attempted to make a comeback at the Olympics shortly after tearing her ACL but suffered another crash during the race on February 8. On Saturday, she took to social media to address her critics.
“It wasn’t all in vain…that was all,” she shared, coupled with a video. “And it wasn’t a dream…It feels so distant now as I find myself in this hospital bed.”
“But I did it. I came back. I won. I showed up and achieved what many thought was impossible at my age: a partial knee replacement. These memories will stay with me forever, and I’m thankful for every single one of them. Every moment was incredible. Every moment was worth it.”
Vonn expressed her surprise at being labeled selfish for not relinquishing her Olympic spot after her initial injury.
“One of the hardest parts was hearing people say I should give up my spot for someone else. So… for the haters who can’t grasp what it means to earn a place, I wanted to share a summary of my season. In a more positive light, I simply wanted to reflect,” she explained before revealing her stats from the past ski season.
She made headlines for her victory in St. Moritz, Switzerland, in December, becoming the oldest Downhill Ski World Cup winner at 41.
Wrapping up her social media message, she offered some words of encouragement and gratitude to her supporters.
“It’s not impossible until it’s done. Though we didn’t achieve our ultimate goal… we still accomplished so much,” she noted. “Thank you to everyone who believed in me!”
This post followed a day after the 2010 Olympic gold medalist shared a poignant update on her recovery from a compound tibia fracture sustained during the downhill event at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
In her update, Vonn included an X-ray of her leg, showcasing almost 20 screws stabilizing the fracture.
After her injury, she remained in Italy for four surgeries before finally returning to the United States.
