Ocasio-Cortez Defends Herself After Munich Conference Performance

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democratic Socialist from New York, is facing criticism following her awkward moments at the Munich Security Conference.

Her responses to essential questions on U.S. foreign policy were heavily mocked as she struggled to provide coherent answers.

In a response video posted on Instagram, Ocasio-Cortez attempted to deflect blame onto President Donald Trump while addressing her critics.

She remarked, “You might think my lack of understanding in foreign policy stems from deliberating on global issues for hours. Unfortunately, that’s not it. Perhaps you’ve just grown accustomed to a president who speaks without considering the implications of his words.”

Vice President J.D. Vance also poked fun at Ocasio-Cortez’s blunders. “After the president complimented me, I hesitated to freeze like the congresswoman did in Munich,” he said. “But now I’m tempted to try it and see if I receive similar praise!”

During the conference, Ocasio-Cortez was asked how the U.S. would respond to a potential Chinese invasion of Taiwan, a hot-button issue. “This is, um, a longstanding policy of the United States,” she stuttered, pausing frequently. “And, I think we want to ensure things don’t escalate to that point.”

Many media outlets suggested that Ocasio-Cortez might be positioning herself for a larger political role, possibly even running for president, which she swiftly denied. “There’s a misunderstanding. This isn’t about me running for president,” she explained to The New York Times.

“Honestly, you can say whatever about it,” she added.
