Grand jury decides not to charge in Patrick Beverley assault case

Grand Jury Decides No Charges for Patrick Beverley

A grand jury in Fort Bend County, Texas, decided not to file charges against former NBA player Patrick Beverley on Monday, as per court records.

Beverley, who is 37 years old, faced felony assault allegations for supposedly hitting and strangling his teenage sister during a heated argument last November. His attorney mentioned that the grand jury’s ruling supports Beverley’s claim of innocence.

“A few months back, we expressed confidence that presenting all relevant information to a grand jury would exonerate Patrick. And that’s what happened. The grand jury found no charges, effectively concluding this matter,” said his attorneys, Rusty Hardin and Leticia Quinones-Hollins.

Beverley reportedly wants to underscore that he would never cause harm to his sister. He expressed gratitude for the grand jury’s outcome and appreciated the support he received during this period. He anticipates the restoration of his reputation now that the charges are dismissed.

The incident leading to his arrest occurred on November 14, when his sister, who is 15, alleged that Beverley grabbed her by the neck and lifted her because of a dispute related to her 18-year-old boyfriend.

According to police statements, she claimed that Beverley “strangled her in pain” and punched her in the eye, leaving visible injuries.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers noted that the young woman had petechiae in her eyes and marks on her neck.

Right after being released, Beverley asserted his innocence on social media, advising not to trust everything seen online. He later took time to clarify, stating that he has no criminal background and that his actions stemmed from concern for his sister, given the circumstances he encountered late at night.

Throughout his NBA career from 2012 to 2024, Beverley played for teams including the Rockets, Clippers, Timberwolves, 76ers, Lakers, Bucks, and Bulls. Following his retirement, he co-hosted a popular podcast with Adam Ferrone from Barstool Sports but stepped back from it shortly after his arrest.
