New Trend “Boy Kibble” Gains Popularity Amid Rising Grocery Prices
A new TikTok trend, dubbed “boy kibble,” is catching on as shoppers look for affordable and uncomplicated meal options amidst climbing grocery prices.
Unlike the popular “girls’ dinners” of 2023 that focus on snack-like platters, Boy Kibble highlights simple bowls of just two key ingredients: white rice and ground beef. There’s room for creativity, though, with the possibility of adding spices and vegetables.
The term itself has a playful ring, hinting at dog food ingredients, often comprising rice and beef. Still, fans assure that it’s tastier. “I love it so much,” one TikTok user commented on a video featuring gyudon, a Japanese beef dish.
Christian Miles, a bodybuilder from Columbia, Missouri, shared that he indulges in ground meat and rice around seven times each week. “It’s one of the five meals I have daily,” noted Miles, who goes by @thequadfather03 on TikTok.
He finds Boy Kibble appealing due to its affordability, ease of preparation, and simplicity. “You can whip it up in under 30 minutes, or meal prep for several days in advance,” he explained. “I often cook in bulk, which makes my daily routine so much smoother.”
Moreover, Miles emphasized that the versatility of this meal can cater to anyone’s fitness objectives. “You might not always use ground meat,” he said. “You could try steak or even ground turkey.”
Amy Goodson, a registered dietitian based in Dallas, remarked that this trend showcases how a balanced diet can still be enticing and trendy. “This bowl exemplifies how food can be nutritious, easy, and delicious,” she stated.
Notably, she pointed out that some additional vegetables or switching to brown rice could further enhance the nutritional profile of the meal. “Adding high-quality protein from beef, fiber and nutrients from veggies, along with carbs from rice, covers many dietary needs,” Goodson noted.
However, Stacey Stevenson, an Illinois-based doctor, cautioned against relying solely on this diet. “Eating just this at every meal could lead to nutritional deficiencies, raising the risk of high blood sugar and cholesterol levels in the long run,” she said. “Though, by incorporating different vegetables and opting for whole grains, you can create a more balanced diet.”
In summary, while Boy Kibble is budget-friendly and straightforward, experts encourage adding variety to ensure a well-rounded diet. “Even a simple frozen vegetable mix can elevate your meal,” added Stevenson.
