President Trump Criticized for Olympic Hockey Remarks

President Donald Trump faced backlash after reaching out to congratulate the men’s Olympic hockey team on their gold medal victory. Some interpreted his comments as dismissive towards the women’s team, who also competed in the tournament.

Just three days prior to Jack Hughes’ winning goal, Megan Keller achieved a similar feat for Canada in the women’s competition.

In his remarks at the State of the Union address, Trump mentioned the men’s team and suggested that if the women weren’t invited, “you’ll probably be impeached.”

Hughes’ mother, Ellen, who works as a player development consultant for the USA women’s ice hockey team, didn’t seem upset by the President’s words. She remarked, “These players—men and women alike—can foster unity within the team and across the country.” She pointed out that those who critique the situation often don’t follow hockey closely.

She added, “From what I’ve seen, the camaraderie and support between the female and male players is remarkable. It’s about human connections, unity, and representing our nation together.”

Quinn Hughes, Jack’s younger brother, also spoke positively about his experience with the women’s team. “We had a blast in the Olympic Village. They cheered for us, and we got to witness their gold medal win,” he shared. “The back-and-forth support really built a special bond.”

Interestingly, the women’s team declined an invitation to visit Washington, citing scheduling issues. Meanwhile, several members of the men’s team are expected to make an appearance following festivities in Miami.

As a side note, the NHL season is set to resume on Wednesday.
