Mother of slain Rachel Morin speaks out against media coverage of immigration issues

Patti Morin, whose daughter Rachel was tragically killed by an illegal immigrant, expressed concerns about how the media is focusing on President Trump’s efforts to deport undocumented individuals. She believes this coverage tends to overlook families like hers, suggesting that acknowledging victims means someone must take responsibility for the loss. “If we acknowledge the victims, we have to say, ‘Someone has to be held accountable.’ And no one wants to take responsibility for this tragedy that struck our land,” she said in an interview on a morning show.

Morin attended the White House’s “National Angel Families Day” event, where Trump paid tribute to families affected by crimes committed by illegal immigrants. Her daughter, a mother of five, was murdered in 2023, which Morin described as one of the saddest moments of her life. “Seeing just a small part of the tragedy of all the Americans who have been killed in recent years was very moving,” she reflected.

During the ceremony, several families shared their stories of loss, and Trump signed a proclamation declaring February 22nd as “National Angel Families Day.” However, the event received criticism, especially from the White House, which called out CNN for not airing it live. A White House communications director described CNN’s failure to cover it as “disgusting,” indicating there was a disconnect in understanding the significance of the moment.

In the aftermath, Morin expressed frustration with politicians who seem to dismiss the need for strict immigration enforcement, arguing they lack empathy for the victims. “They see the American people as just victims, and they don’t empathize because they’re not personally and emotionally invested,” she noted, highlighting what she perceives as a troubling detachment from the real impact of these events on people’s lives.
