Trump’s Comments Divide Voter Panel During State of the Union
President Donald Trump’s remarks on Democrats, labeling them “crazy,” generated mixed reactions from a live panel of voters during his recent State of the Union address. The panel remained seated while he called for a ban on minors transitioning genders without parental consent.
This group, organized by Maslansky & Partners, consisted of 29 Democrats, 30 independents, and 40 Republicans. Their real-time feedback was illustrated through a graph, highlighting positive and negative reactions based on their sentiments.
“No nation should allow a child to be taken from their parents and transitioned into a new gender against their will,” Trump stated emphatically. “Who would believe that? We must ban it, and we must act now.”
Following these comments, reactions shifted markedly. The Republican line surged into positive territory, while independents also showed a slight increase. However, Democrats’ sentiments dipped into negative territory.
The president’s remarks earned applause from the Republican attendees, yet he became increasingly frustrated upon noticing that Democrats remained seated.
“Look, no one is standing up,” Trump remarked. “These people are crazy. I’m telling you, they’re crazy,” as he gestured toward the Democrats present.
Throughout Trump’s address, Republican responses stayed high, while negative reactions from Democrats persisted, leaving independent reactions comparatively stable.
Trump specifically referenced Virginia teenager Sage Blair, whose family filed a lawsuit alleging that school officials transitioned her gender without her parents’ knowledge in 2023. The lawsuit claims Blair began identifying as male at school, receiving male pronouns and access to male facilities without her family’s awareness.
The family contended the situation escalated after Blair ran away and subsequently became a victim of sex trafficking, allegedly kidnapped and abused across multiple states.
During his speech, Trump recounted how officials attempted to socially transition Blair at age 14, concealing this from her parents. “But today, all that is behind her, because Sage is a proud and wonderful young woman with a full scholarship to Liberty University. Sage and Michelle, please stand up,” he said, prompting cheers from Republican members.
“Thank you for your incredible courage,” he added, recognizing their experience.
The segment about gender policy sparked some of the most intense reactions from the audience.
Supporters highlighted themes like child protection and parental rights with comments emphasizing “protecting children” and “parents should be informed.” However, critics countered that a total ban overlooked the nuances of individual cases, asserting that “every case is unique.”
The whole discussion seemed to evoke deeply personal responses from both sides.
