Sen. Warner Leaves State of the Union Address Early

Senator Mark Warner from Virginia expressed strong discontent with President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, labeling it full of falsehoods. Warner stated he walked out before the speech concluded, unable to tolerate what he described as hours of lies.

In his remarks, Warner said, “I left the State of the Union address because I couldn’t stand watching President Trump lie for hours on end. Americans know the truth. He’s driving up prices and destroying the economy. We’re a better country than this.” He made this comment shortly before the president wrapped up his lengthy address just before 11 p.m., which set a record for duration in recent years.

Prior to the event, Warner had hinted at the president’s tendency to mislead. He had tweeted earlier in the day about the anticipated untruths during the speech, alleging that Trump had ruined the economy and misappropriated funds. During the State of the Union, Warner tweeted again, indicating that the president continued his pattern of dishonesty.

Other Democratic lawmakers also voiced their concerns. Representative Bill Foster from Illinois mentioned he left the speech midway, having encountered multiple false statements within the first hour. He remarked that this had happened similarly in the past. Meanwhile, Representative Lauren Underwood expressed her frustration, particularly regarding Trump’s handling of healthcare issues, stating that she simply couldn’t endure any more of his remarks.

In a notable protest, Representative Al Green held a sign reading “Black people are not monkeys!” during the address and was subsequently removed from the chamber. Reports indicate that several other lawmakers either walked out or opted to skip the State of the Union entirely.
