Suspect Arrested in Murder of Billionaire Philanthropist
Montgomery County police announced on Wednesday that they have arrested a suspect linked to the shooting death of Robert Fuller, an 87-year-old billionaire philanthropist, in a Maryland senior living facility.
A press conference is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET at the police headquarters in Gaithersburg. Major Crimes Division Chief Mark Yamada and Deputy Chief Willie Parker Roan, among others, will share details about the case and the suspect’s arrest.
Additionally, officials stated that Maryland State Police would also take part in the murder investigation, particularly regarding an incident where the suspect allegedly fired at officers during a traffic stop.
Fuller was found dead in his apartment and had a gunshot wound to the head, as confirmed by a press release from the department on February 20. Before the arrest, detectives had released surveillance footage showing an individual on the grounds of Coghill, a nursing home in Potomac, leading up to the murder. They identified this person as a suspect but noted that there was no clear description of gender or race; the individual could be either male or female.
Detectives requested that anyone who recognized the person’s clothing or specific traits, like their walking style, reach out to authorities.
Representative Bill Brisio from Maine, who knew Fuller, stated that he was a well-known lawyer and former naval reserve officer who had contributed significantly to the community. “A new YMCA, a new hospital in town, a major expansion of the high school,” he mentioned, listing some of Fuller’s contributions.
