Police Arrest Suspected Migrant Sex Traffickers Following Street Shooting

Police Bust Sex Trafficking Rings Amid Shooting Investigation

In Pennsylvania, while probing a street shooting, law enforcement uncovered two sex trafficking operations that were coercing women into prostitution.

Authorities in Norristown took action after a request to investigate the wounding of Fernando Mesa Ramirez, 42, during a shooting that occurred on February 13. Ramirez, identified as a Mexican national illegally residing in the U.S. and living in New York City, was shot in the thigh while driving a Toyota RAV4.

The injured man recounted to officers that he was traveling from New York to Norristown when an individual in a white Acura TLX pulled up and began firing shots at him.

However, as detectives from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Norristown Police Department looked into the shooting, they started uncovering evidence suggesting that Mesa-Ramirez was actually involved in running a prostitution ring between New York and Norristown. Investigators noted that he possessed a business card featuring an image of a naked woman.

Further inquiries revealed that Mesa-Ramirez was engaged in a territorial dispute with Efran Flores-Rodriguez, a Norristown resident believed to be running his own prostitution business.

Witnesses identified Flores-Rodriguez as the passenger in the Acura and the individual who fired shots at Mesa-Ramirez.

Upon searching Flores-Rodriguez’s residence, police found an illegal firearm and a woman who was thought to be one of his prostitutes. This woman informed officers that Flores-Rodriguez had clients for her and that she had previously worked for Mesa-Ramirez.

Both men were arrested and face charges related to human trafficking and more. They are set to appear in court again on April 10.

In another incident, Louisiana authorities also dismantled a sex trafficking ring linked to illegal immigrants. In New Orleans, investigators arrested three Honduran men accused of advertising prostitution services to women via WhatsApp.

The suspects include Jesus Lopez, 45, Zaila López Oliva, 24, and Kyrsis Castellanos Killington, 30, who allegedly provided sexual services for $40 to $60 to trafficked women from New Jersey, Houston, Texas, and other areas.

The three were indicted on November 19 and are facing prosecution from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Louisiana.

If found guilty of sex trafficking, each could face at least 15 years and up to life in prison, along with hefty fines and supervised release. They may also face deportation from the United States after serving their sentences.
