Pressley Compares ICE to KKK, Faces Backlash
Rep. Ayanna Pressley from Massachusetts has expressed strong opinions regarding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, likening its agents to the Ku Klux Klan. During an interview, Pressley stated that these immigration officers are leading a “campaign of terror,” adding that he is indifferent to who supports them.
“Just like the KKK, there’s no way to reform ICE. It’s not really about training or protocols,” Pressley articulated. In reaction to these comments, the Republican National Committee’s official account criticized Pressley, labeling his statements as “unfair.”
This isn’t the first time Pressley has faced scrutiny for his remarks on ICE. Back in January, he called for the agency’s abolition, describing it as both “racist” and “unjust.” He went on to declare that ICE’s actions are unconstitutional and cruel, referring to the agency as “thugs” that intimidate communities.
Pressley also condemned the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, who died during an encounter with ICE agents. He characterized this incident as “horrible and unacceptable,” noting it involved alleged attempts to run over an officer.
“This harm does not discriminate. It affects everyone,” Pressley emphasized, pointing out that all communities are at risk of such actions due to the rogue nature of the agency. He insisted that the ongoing issues with ICE are rooted in longstanding cultural practices, not just a matter of poor training.
Despite the outcry over his comments, Pressley remains firm in his stance against ICE’s operations. He believes Congress has the responsibility to take action in addressing what he sees as systemic harm caused by the agency.
Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security has not publicly responded to Pressley’s recent claims. Previously, the White House condemned Pressley and others for their remarks, linking them to violent incidents targeting ICE personnel and attributing a rise in assaults on officers to the rhetoric used by Democratic lawmakers.
