During his State of the Union address, President Donald Trump highlighted several victims of crime, promising “justice” for them. Among those mentioned were Irina Zalutka, Lizbeth Medina, Dalila Coleman, and two National Guard soldiers who were tragically shot in Washington, D.C. Family members of these victims were present in the audience as Trump delivered his speech.
The crime victims mentioned by President Trump are as follows:
– Irina Zalutka:
Irina Zalutka, 23, lost her life in a stabbing incident on August 22, 2025, while riding a light rail train in Charlotte, North Carolina. The suspect, DeCarlos Brown Jr., aged 34, faces charges in both state and federal courts.
In the address, Trump assured that his administration would “ensure justice” for Zalutka, with her mother present during his speech.
Trump remarked, “Tonight, I have the honor of joining you with Anna Zalutka, a woman who has experienced unimaginable pain. In 2022, she and her daughter fled war in Ukraine to find refuge in Charlotte. It’s heartbreaking. Just last summer, an individual with a long arrest record viciously attacked her, leading to this tragedy.” He promised, “Mr. Zalutka, we will ensure justice for your wonderful daughter Irina.”
– Charlie Kirk:
Trump also acknowledged the widow of Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University. Tyler Robinson has been charged with several crimes, including aggravated murder, related to Kirk’s death. The president paid tribute, saying, “Charlie was a martyr for his beliefs. His widow, Erica, is with us tonight. Please stand up, Erica. Thank you.”
– Lisbeth Medina:
Lizbeth Medina, just 16 years old, was found stabbed to death in December 2023. Her killer, Rafael Romero, an undocumented immigrant, pleaded guilty to multiple charges and received two life sentences. Trump recounted the tragic moment: “She was supposed to perform at the Christmas parade but met a horrific fate in her own home.” He emphasized the ongoing issue of criminals who are undocumented immigrants.
– Dalila Coleman:
Five-year-old Dalila Coleman suffered devastating injuries when her car was struck by an 18-wheeler driven by an undocumented immigrant in June 2024. The driver, Partap Singh, faces serious charges. Trump shared, “Doctors said she might never walk or talk again, but against all odds, she’s now in first grade and learning to walk.” He invited her to stand and be recognized.
– National Guard member shot in Washington, D.C.:
Trump honored 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, who was shot in November 2025 while on duty in D.C. She died the following day. Another National Guard member, Andrew Wolf, was also injured but survived. Trump expressed his sorrow over her sacrifice, stating, “Sarah died protecting the Capitol. She was a true patriot.” He highlighted his concern about those who harm service members in the country.
