Ex-Democrat Rep. Val Demings Minimizes Child's Severe Injury Caused by Illegal Immigrant Truck Driver

Discussion on Dalila’s Law and Immigration Issues

A former congressman involved in the impeachment of President Donald Trump dismissed significant injuries sustained by Dalila Coleman during a CNN panel discussion on Wednesday. In his State of the Union address, Trump advocated for the introduction of “Dalila’s Law,” which would prevent states from issuing commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) to those in the country illegally. This led to criticism from Val Demings, a former Democratic Congressman from Florida, who took issue with the portrayal of Coleman’s situation.

Demings raised the question, “Why don’t you talk about the two fatalities that occurred in these instances?” He pointed out that Trump’s speech seemed to overlook the implications of winning an election, stating that it requires representing all constituents, not just a select few.

Lydia Moynihan from the New York Post also weighed in, highlighting Trump’s acknowledgment of Coleman’s recovery, noting, “If there are Democrats who won’t celebrate her recovery, then, yeah, that’s crazy.” During Trump’s address, Democrats notably remained seated when asked to agree on prioritizing American citizens over undocumented immigrants.

Demings remarked, “Unfortunately, every day in America, people are killed, and most of those victims are Americans.” Moynihan interjected, urging deeper consideration on the matter. Demings concluded that regardless of the perpetrator’s immigration status, the outcome remains tragic: someone either died or suffered severe injuries.

The illegal immigrant responsible for the crash in question was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in September. Meanwhile, Republican Senator Jim Banks of Indiana supported a bill aimed at prohibiting states from granting CDLs to undocumented individuals, which recently passed.

The Trump administration previously intensified restrictions on illegal immigrants with CDLs following a fatal accident in Florida that resulted in three deaths when an undocumented driver made an illegal U-turn. Reports indicated that this driver failed an English proficiency test and could not identify several road signs.
