A man from Long Island has been sentenced to life in prison for the brutal murder of his longtime friend, following a binge drinking night in the Hamptons. Jeremy Allen, 44, was convicted of first-degree murder in connection with the death of 43-year-old Christopher Hahn, a verdict reached last month.
Prosecutors announced that Allen will serve his sentence without the possibility of parole. District Attorney Ray Tierney expressed that Hahn deserved far better than what happened, emphasizing that the nature of the crime warranted a life sentence.
Allen and Hahn had been friends since high school. They spent time together at a local bar, drinking heavily before they went back to Allen’s home in East Quogue on September 27, 2024.
Things took a violent turn shortly after midnight when Allen attacked Hahn, leaving him in a semi-conscious state on the back deck. But this wasn’t the end of it; prosecutors indicated that the assault was escalating.
Afterward, Allen returned wielding a baseball bat, striking Hahn repeatedly. He then tied a plastic bag around Hahn’s head, watching as he struggled to breathe from a nearby chair.
In a cruel act, Allen took a knife from his home and stabbed Hahn ten times in the neck, all while observing him take his last breaths, approximately six hours after the violence began.
Following the attack, Allen attempted to clean up the scene and even called someone for help in destroying evidence. However, the handyman he contacted discreetly called the police instead.
Authorities apprehended Allen shortly after and charged him with murder. They have not disclosed what triggered this outburst of violence.
On January 21, a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence, both of which could lead to a life sentence without parole, according to state law. The sentence was confirmed on Thursday by Supreme Court Justice Timothy Mazzei.
