Senators Fall to Red Wings in Overtime
The Ottawa Senators took the ice once again on Thursday, facing off against the Detroit Red Wings. Unfortunately for the Senators, they ended up on the losing side, falling 2-1 in overtime.
Brady Tkachuk, the 26-year-old standout for Team USA, made a mark early in the game. He scored during a power play, giving the Senators a brief 1-0 lead in the first period. But after that initial excitement, the scoring went quiet for the Senators.
In the second period, things got a bit chaotic. The Red Wings equalized when Dylan Larkin netted a power-play goal. Shortly after that, Tkachuk was injured following a hit from Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson. Edvinsson stepped on Tkachuk, sending him to the ice, bloodied and clutching his face. Tkachuk’s teammate, Dylan Cozens, didn’t take this lightly and confronted Edvinsson.
Amidst the commotion, punches were thrown, and Cozens found himself on the ground after a few solid hits from Edvinsson. Post-game, Tkachuk needed help from a trainer as he made his way to the bench, a towel covering his face.
The situation didn’t cool down after that. Once the dust settled, Tkachuk tried to engage Edvinsson again but was quickly escorted away by referees and handed a misconduct penalty. Tension between the two players escalated as they exchanged words from their respective penalty boxes.
The game continued, but neither team managed to score in the third period. Ultimately, the Red Wings clinched the victory in overtime, with Larkin scoring his second goal.
Looking ahead, the Senators will aim to regroup when they face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET.
