Former President Joe Biden navigated some travel delays before catching a commercial flight to South Carolina on Friday. He was seen taking an “awkward” selfie at the airport ahead of a gathering celebrating the sixth anniversary of his win in the 2020 presidential primary.
After arriving from Washington, Biden, 83, noticed a woman in a wheelchair, seemingly in a cast, who was photographing him.
Upon arriving in South Carolina, Biden received a warm welcome. He playfully climbed over a post to grab a woman’s phone and attempt a selfie with her.
Biden, along with another woman assisting him, fiddled with their phones for about 20 seconds before finally locating the camera.
MAGA influencer Nick Souter remarked that Biden “just stared blankly until someone intervened” during this meeting, which he shared on social media.
“So this is who Democrats call the ‘sharpest ever!'” Souter added in disbelief.
MAGA activist Brandon Straka noted Biden attempted to frame the encounter as an “awkward moment.”
A Twitter user, Jeff G., commented, “Another weird Joe Biden moment.”
Another conservative influencer, Western Lensman, questioned, “Is this the person we were told could lead the country for another four years?” garnering a lot of responses.
CS Ramza II, a different social media user, saw things differently and suggested, “Would you like to add his contact information? #GameRecognizesGame.”
Biden’s trip coincides with his earlier revelation about his “aggressive” prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.
On social media, travelers at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport were excited to spot familiar faces, including Biden. DC NewsNow journalist Susan Tran tweeted about the flight delays affecting even a former president, sharing a video of him waiting, surrounded by Secret Service.
Once on the plane, Biden shared smiles and small talk with other passengers as he made his way to his seat.
During this, a woman took the opportunity to lecture him about the Israel-Hamas situation, stating, “Children in Gaza are dying every day…We have to stop them.”
Biden responded, “I know that. Yeah, I know that. So…” trailing off as she was invited to sit down.
Biden secured his 2020 South Carolina primary victory after suffering significant losses in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada, defeating Senator Bernie Sanders with crucial support from Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), along with a rival who dropped out fearing a potential Senate loss to Trump.
Biden’s cancer diagnosis came to light in May, just days before the release of his much-anticipated book, “Original Sin,” which details his mental decline during his time in office, attracting national sympathy and slightly shifting attention from other controversies.
