Trump Orders Federal Agencies to Stop Using Anthropic Technology

President Trump Orders Halt on Anthropic’s AI Technology

President Donald Trump announced his decision to instruct federal agencies to “immediately cease all use” of Anthropic’s AI technology. He indicated that there will be a “six-month phase-out period” for any agency currently utilizing the company’s products.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticized the “left-wing crazy workers at Anthropic,” claiming they made a significant error in trying to bolster the War Department. He emphasized that the U.S. “will never allow radical left-wing upstarts to dictate how our nation’s great military fights and wins wars.”

“I am directing all federal agencies of the United States government to immediately cease using Anthropic’s technology,” Trump stated. “We don’t need it, we don’t want it, and we won’t do business with them again! There will be a six-month phase-out period for government agencies like the Department of the Army that use Anthropic’s products at various levels.”

Lucas Nolan from Breitbart News reported that Anthropic is engaged in “controversial negotiations with the Department of Defense,” focusing on Anthropic’s demands for specific safeguards regarding the use of its AI models in military applications.

According to CNBC, Anthropic is currently in contentious discussions with the Department of Defense concerning the terms of a defense contract. This dispute revolves around Anthropic’s request for certain assurances on how its AI technology can be utilized by the military.

Part of Trump’s message reiterated: “America will never allow radical leftist corporations to determine how our great military organization fights and wins wars! That decision belongs to your commander-in-chief and the great leaders I have appointed to run the military.”

Trump expressed that “the left-wing lunatics made a disastrous mistake in trying to strengthen the War Department, endangering American lives, our military, and national security.”

Army Secretary Pete Hegseth acknowledged interest in the matter in a post. He tagged both Anthropic and its CEO, Dario Amodei, noting he was nearing a decision to terminate the contract with Anthropic, the creator of the Claude AI system. A senior Department of Defense official mentioned that Hegseth is looking into potentially classifying ‘humanity’ as a supply chain risk.

“Humanity should get their act together and work together during this phase-out, or I will use the full power of my presidency to compel compliance, which could lead to serious civil and criminal repercussions,” Trump added.

Amodei had previously remarked that the Army Corps holds the right to “select the contractor that best aligns with our vision,” but he expressed hope that it will “reconsider” in light of the significant value Anthropic’s technology provides.
