Body of missing Illinois father Daniel Davis discovered in Chicago suburbs after three months of searching

An Illinois father who went missing has been found deceased more than three months after he disappeared. Daniel “Dan” Davis had refused medical care after a car accident and was dropped off at work by police.

His body was located around 3 p.m. on Monday in a wooded area near railroad tracks in Blue Island, a suburb of Chicago, as confirmed by the Chicago police.

The investigation into the cause of the 59-year-old’s death is still ongoing.

His daughter, Wendy Davis, shared that the family was notified about the discovery of her father’s body after what she described as an “agonizing three-and-a-half month” search for their cherished family member.

“It feels eerie. I’m relieved that this chapter filled with uncertainty is finally closed,” she expressed in an emotional Facebook post on Tuesday.

Witnesses last spotted Davis around 1:15 a.m. on November 25, roaming the entertainment venue where he worked at a bar. Earlier that morning, he had been involved in a car crash but chose not to seek medical attention.

According to a spokesperson from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, paramedics assessed Davis but he declined any treatment, and there appeared to be no visible injuries.

However, authorities were concerned that he might have sustained a head injury from the significant damage caused to his vehicle.

Officers indicated that since his car was inoperable, they provided him a ride to work around 12:30 a.m.

Later, security footage captured him looking disoriented as he strolled through a suburban area and exited a local church at 6:30 p.m. on November 26.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office remarked that the Sheriff’s Police K9 unit has been aiding the Merrionette Park Police in their ongoing search efforts.

Wendy noted that her father’s face seemed to show signs of drooping in the video, and mentioned he stumbled on a curb while also wearing his sweatshirt inside out.

She recounted, “As we reviewed the footage, we saw some unusual signs from Dan,” emphasizing the concerns about his well-being prior to the accident.

Moreover, she reflected on the possibility of him having sustained a concussion, stating, “The accident surely didn’t make things any better, but we can’t be certain.”

After her father’s body was found, Wendy expressed gratitude toward law enforcement and the community involved in the search, saying, “A new, daunting chapter begins without my more intelligent, less intelligent, and infinitely selfless other half.”

“This, in a way, was the outcome we all dreaded, yet reality doesn’t truly prepare you for such news. I’ve never shared so many laughs with anyone as I did with my dad, and I look forward to those moments again in the future,” she concluded her post.

“Every effort was meaningful. I’m incredibly grateful for how much my dad was cared for,” she added.
