Pelosi Endorses Harry Dunn for Congressional Bid
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has thrown her support behind Harry Dunn, a candidate in the Democratic primary for Maryland’s 5th Congressional District. Dunn, who served as a U.S. Capitol Police Officer, was present during the riot on January 6, 2021.
In a statement, Pelosi praised Dunn as a “true American hero” and described him as the ideal representative for Maryland. She acknowledged his courage on January 6 when he defended democracy against a violent mob. “Since that day, he’s been focused on protecting Marylanders and all Americans from extremists,” she added. “I’m proud to support Harry Dunn for Congress.”
It’s worth noting that Pelosi won’t be seeking re-election herself.
Dunn expressed gratitude for Pelosi’s endorsement, highlighting her resilience during tough times for democracy. “She stands strong when our democracy is under attack,” he stated, adding that he is proud to have her support in this fight.
Pelosi had previously backed Dunn in 2024, but he did not succeed in the Democratic primary for Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District that year. Current Democratic Representative Steny Hoyer, who holds the Maryland 5th seat, is also not pursuing re-election.
