Mass Shooting Injures Multiple Individuals in California

On Thursday, a mass shooting in California left two members of Congress and a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. employee injured, with the gunman also sustaining injuries during the incident, according to officials.

The El Dorado Sheriff’s Office was alerted around 7:25 a.m. when a PG&E crew reported gunfire directed toward a nearby home on Mountain View Drive in Camino. Deputies promptly responded.

One PG&E employee was hurt and taken to the hospital, but fortunately, the injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A SWAT team was deployed to the scene, arriving approximately three hours later as part of efforts to stabilize the situation.

It’s reported that video footage captured officers being ambushed in their patrol cars as the gunfire erupted, revealing the suspect found deceased following a shootout.

By about 11:25 a.m., the situation escalated into an officer-involved shooting, which resulted in injuries to two police officers and the suspect. While the deputies were said to be in stable condition, the suspect’s condition is not yet known.

The investigation into the events is ongoing.

In response to the incident, PG&E issued a statement, confirming that they were aware of the situation and noted that a contractor was injured. A spokesperson expressed appreciation for the rapid response from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.

The labor union IBEW Local 1245 also acknowledged that the injured worker was a member of their union and expressed relief that the injuries weren’t life-threatening. Their business director, Bob Dean, remarked on the frightening nature of the situation for their crew members and extended well wishes to the wounded deputies.

In light of this incident, Dean noted the unexpected hazards these workers face, emphasizing that they deserve to safeguard themselves from violence while performing their jobs to help the community. This incident highlights a distressing reality in service roles, marked by the potential for violence.
