Morrissey Faces Backlash Over Concert Cancellation
British singer Morrissey is under fire from fans after he canceled a concert in Valencia, Spain, due to sleep issues. He cited the city’s noise level as a major factor affecting his ability to rest adequately for the performance, as stated on his official blog, Morrissey Central.
This isn’t the first time the former Smiths frontman has canceled shows—he has a history of similar decisions—but the reasoning this time has left fans a bit uneasy. His blog indicated that Morrissey was unable to get the necessary sleep, which subsequently made performing impossible.
Reports mention that Morrissey has canceled over 400 shows throughout his career. Despite this track record, fans in Valencia were still disappointed by the latest announcement, especially given the unusual nature of the excuse.
In a message to his followers, Morrissey explained that he had driven from Milan but couldn’t find the peace required to rest in Valencia due to constant noise.
Earlier, he wrote on his blog, “After two days on the road, Morrissey arrived at his hotel late Wednesday. The noise from the festival, loud techno music, and announcements made any sleep impossible.”
He described his hotel experience as “an indescribable hell,” suggesting it might take him a full year to recover from this ordeal. As you can imagine, this expression caught the attention of his fans, who quickly took to social media to vent their frustrations.
Comments ranged from sarcastic remarks about his touring age, with one fan quipping, “Why tour when you’re already a grandpa? You should stay home,” to expressions of disappointment over a history of cancellations. Another lamented, “I’m not running to buy tickets anymore.” The overall sentiment seemed to reflect a mix of anger and tiredness regarding the repeated letdowns.
Despite the backlash, Morrissey has yet to offer a response to the criticism stemming from this latest cancellation. It’s a situation that has surely stirred quite the debate among his supporters.
