Homeland Security Critiques Media for Ignoring Criminal Immigration Arrests

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has called out left-leaning media for not acknowledging that a significant number of immigration arrests involve undocumented immigrants with criminal histories.

In a press release that Blaze News received, the DHS pointed out that on Thursday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took action against pedophiles and other offenders.

“Sanctuary politicians, perhaps, should be expressing gratitude to law enforcement rather than trying to gain political leverage,” the release suggested.

Currently, the DHS has been without funding for around a month, and Democratic legislators have been reluctant to approve funding until they see tougher reforms applied to ICE. On Thursday, there was a notable pushback when a senator rejected a funding bill for the fourth time, which sought to restore funding to DHS.

“On Thursday, ICE apprehended illegal aliens involved in serious crimes such as child sex offenses, sexual assault, drug trafficking, and more,” the DHS reported in a statement.

Among those arrested was Jose Mendez, an undocumented individual from El Salvador with prior convictions for child sex acts in Mineola, New York.

Another arrest involved Edgar Martínez Funes, an undocumented immigrant from Honduras previously convicted of attempting aggravated sexual assault against a child in Dallas County, Texas.

ICE also detained Victor Enrique Perez Sanchez, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico who is a convicted sexual assaulter in La Mesa, Texas.

Additionally, Hanh Ngoc Nguyen, an illegal alien from Vietnam, was arrested for multiple drug-related offenses, including conspiracy to distribute MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, in Fairview Heights, Illinois.

DHS also highlighted the arrest of Angel Giovanni Garcia-Bamudez, another illegal immigrant from Mexico, who was involved in fentanyl trafficking in Franklin County, Ohio.

“The media and sanctuary politicians tend to overlook that nearly 70 percent of ICE arrests are of illegal aliens with criminal charges or convictions,” stated Lauren Biss, Deputy Assistant Secretary of DHS.

Biss emphasized that the dedicated ICE agents are putting their lives at risk to protect society from dangerous individuals. Instead of seeking to gain political advantages, she argued that these politicians ought to acknowledge the efforts of law enforcement in eliminating serious threats from the community.
