Gingrich Raises Alarm Over Iranian Threat
On Friday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich expressed grave concerns on Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria” about the increasing threat from Iran, suggesting that inaction could lead to nuclear weapons being used against American cities.
“It gets even more serious when considering the potential costs,” host Maria Bartiromo stated. “Today, we have a new threat from Iran—they’re planning to target U.S. banks. Meanwhile, oil prices have been surging out of control. Just look at oil this morning; it’s stabilizing around $95 a barrel, with Brent crude hitting $100. Iran’s new supreme leader appears to maintain that the Strait of Hormuz must stay effectively closed to impact their adversaries. You mentioned this in a post on X, noting that ‘Iran’s strategy isn’t about defeating the U.S. militarily but rather about resisting global calls for a ceasefire.’ If we see this kind of development during the midterm elections, it could significantly affect the Republican leadership, don’t you agree?”
“Absolutely. There are two aspects to consider,” he replied. “First, the goal is to dismantle a religious dictatorship that has regarded itself as at war with the U.S. since 1979. Just recently, members of the Iranian parliament were vocally calling for death to the U.S. Iran’s revolution has resulted in the deaths of Americans, such as the 200 victims in Lebanon and several Marines. This is a dangerously militant government, and we cannot simply end this conflict.” He continued, “However, the focus of this war isn’t solely on the Strait of Hormuz. If our Navy and Air Force were to step in and halt attempts to blockade, much like during Reagan’s administration in the 1980s, it could lead to a substantial drop in oil prices. The American public, unless ground forces are deployed, would likely back any efforts to neutralize this threat.”
“If the Iranians had their way,” he warned, “the threat of nuclear weapons targeting American cities would become a reality. That’s what’s really at stake here. Whenever someone on television advocates for a ceasefire, they’re, in essence, supporting Iran. I’m baffled by the logic of allowing our sworn enemy access to nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. It’s only a matter of time before they utilize them against American cities.”
