Morrissey Cancels Concert in Spain Due to Sleep Issues
British rock musician Morrissey has called off a concert in Spain, and his reasons are, well, pretty relatable. On Thursday, he announced that a show planned for Valencia had been canceled because he couldn’t sleep.
Traveling from Milan, he mentioned that he couldn’t rest in Valencia owing to the noise in the area. The “loud techno singing and megaphone announcements,” as stated, made it impossible for him to get the adequate rest he needed.
His statement read that this experience left him “in a catatonic state,” which sounds intense. Valencia is currently hosting the Las Fallas Festival, a five-day celebration that kicks off spring with large artistic sculptures, which are ultimately burned in a dramatic finale called La Crema.
Morrissey’s announcement highlighted that the show itself isn’t canceled, but circumstances simply made it impossible for it to go ahead. It’s not quite clear if ticket holders will be able to get refunds, as that detail wasn’t specified.
The musician described his stay at a hotel in Place Manises as “an indescribable hell,” which is quite the statement. He added that it might take a year to recover, perhaps an understatement.
The Spanish Embassy in the UK even chimed in, sharing a video of the ongoing festival and noting the cancellation due to Morrissey’s lack of sleep. Their statement included a nod to the festival’s noise and fireworks, adding a light-hearted touch.
At present, Morrissey is traveling on a world tour to promote his latest solo album, “Makeup Is a Lie,” his first in six years. It’s been quite an eventful time for him, but one can’t help but wonder what it’ll take to truly catch some rest.
