Iran detains many individuals suspected of being spies for Israel

DUBAI – Reports from local media on Sunday indicated that dozens of individuals have been detained across various regions in Iran. They’re being investigated for allegedly sharing sensitive information with Israel, while Israeli and U.S. warplanes have been targeting new areas within the country.

The semi-official Tasnim news agency mentioned that 20 people were arrested in northwestern Iran. They stand accused by the state prosecutor’s office of providing details on the locations of Iranian military and security sites to Israel.

In the northeastern part of Iran, which has largely escaped the impact of airstrikes, Tasnim also reported another 10 arrests on Sunday. Some of these individuals are suspected of gathering information related to critical locations and economic infrastructure.

A local unit of the Revolutionary Guards’ intelligence division made a statement through Tasnim news agency, claiming, “As the Zionist enemy (Israel) and the United States aim to invade Iran, they are concurrently rallying mercenaries and spies to orchestrate an insurgency as a follow-up action.”

The Student News Network noted on Sunday that in Lorestan province, three people were detained for “disturbing public opinion” and attempting to destroy symbols of remembrance.

Further insights suggest that Israel is now targeting security checkpoints using intelligence from local informants, marking a new stage in their offensive against Iran, as reported by people familiar with Israeli military strategies.

Back in January, just weeks before the current conflict escalated, widespread protests against the government in Iran were violently suppressed, leading to one of the most severe crackdowns in the nation’s history. Authorities at the time accused Israel and the United States of encouraging a “violent insurrection” intended to disrupt the clerical establishment.
