Divorce Documents Reveal Alarming Allegations Against California Congressman

Newly filed divorce papers paint a troubling picture of Joaquin Arambula, a congressman from California, with allegations made by his wife, Elizabeth Arambula. She claims that while she sought help in a rehab facility, he monitored her closely through various means.

Elizabeth contends that Joaquin enlisted his father to keep tabs on her recovery. She has even suggested that he used the family’s home security system to watch her movements. At one point, her stepfather had to intervene, threatening to call the police to put an end to the alleged harassment.

After filing for divorce on January 26, Elizabeth leveled serious accusations against Joaquin, who is currently campaigning for a position on the Fresno City Council. Among her claims is that he frittered away thousands of dollars monthly on gaming and struggled with addiction to THC pens and alcohol.

The divorce filing details how Joaquin, 48, supposedly had his father shadow Elizabeth as she attempted to leave their shared home. He reportedly tried to follow her to her new residence, which she shares with their three daughters—ages 11, 14, and 15.

In her statement, Elizabeth described a situation where Joaquin took control of their home security system, removing her from the account so he could remotely monitor activities during her time in rehab.

Adding to the unsettling claims, she alleged that he had one of their daughters set up location tracking to ensure he always knew their whereabouts. This revelation comes just as the couple’s 15-year marriage ends, unveiling what appears to be a chaotic home life for Joaquin, who represents California’s 31st District, encompassing roughly 500,000 constituents.

Elizabeth disclosed that a typical day for Joaquin involved using a THC pen, drinking whiskey, and playing games on his iPad, while occasionally attending meetings. She pointed to surveillance footage indicating he smoked marijuana during this time. In a striking example of his spending habits, she noted he spent around $4,700 in just one month on the game “Raid: Shadow Legends.”

Financial details revealed that Joaquin earns $12,000 a month and receives an additional $6,000 per month during legislative sessions. Elizabeth, meanwhile, manages their family on $28,000 a month, but claims Joaquin drained about $1 million from their joint accounts.

Elizabeth’s attorney expressed hope that Joaquin would act in the best interest of his wife and children, given her long-standing role as a homemaker and supportive spouse. Meanwhile, court documents indicate Joaquin has voluntarily entered rehabilitation and is seeking to demonstrate his commitment to sobriety while supporting his family moving forward.

Despite the gravity of the allegations, Joaquin maintains that he did not intend harm and believes the court will fairly assess the situation, dismissing accusations as unfounded. His prior legal troubles include a 2018 arrest related to alleged child abuse, which ultimately resulted in a not guilty verdict.

Throughout this distressing chapter, Elizabeth reflects on the influence of her husband, who was once the first Latino physician elected to the Fresno Assembly. The ongoing divorce proceedings promise to reveal further details about their strained relationship.
