Sharon Osbourne’s Take on Politics in Hollywood

Sharon Osbourne has a clear message for Hollywood’s elite: keep your political opinions to yourself during award speeches. The widow of rock legend Ozzy Osbourne believes that many Americans have had enough of actors making political statements, especially during award shows. Recently, on an episode of her podcast, she expressed that people often seek entertainment as a way to escape from the chaos of the world.

While chatting with her son Jack, Sharon stated, “Everyone needs a break from what’s going on in the world.” It’s understandable for people to feel emotional about political issues, but she pointed out that audiences likely tune in for a bit of relief.

Sharon mentioned the substantial viewer numbers, noting, “They know they have 15, [to] 16 million people watching in this country alone,” highlighting the desire some entertainers have to use their platform to express their feelings on various issues. However, she emphasized that the common person—referred to as “Joe Public”—wants a respite from such discussions.

Osbourne suggested that actors should reserve their political views for personal channels like their social media or podcasts rather than using award shows as a platform for those messages. She remarked that many Americans feel overwhelmed and are already “living in fear,” implying that there’s no need for additional worry from celebrities.

Jack chimed in, suggesting that constantly repeating the same political slogans feels like a “waste of time.” He questioned the lack of originality in such statements.

Sharon was married to Ozzy for 43 years before he passed away in July at the age of 76. Together, they raised three children: Amy, Jack, and Kelly. Ozzy also had two kids, Lewis and Jessica, from his previous marriage. Additionally, he had an adopted son named Elliot.

Meanwhile, Kelly Osbourne has recently made headlines for her significant weight loss and the backlash that followed. Photographed looking quite thin this month, she faced criticism, which she addressed by labeling Americans as fatphobic. Drawing from her past, she reflected, “I was a drug addict, I was an alcoholic… But I got worse for being fat than for anything else. It’s insane.”
