Fetterman Talks Friendship with Dr. Oz

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman shared in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity that he is good friends with Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Director of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Fetterman previously defeated Oz in the November 2022 midterm elections for the U.S. Senate seat left by former Republican Senator Pat Toomey. During an episode of “Hangouts with Sean Hannity,” he expressed admiration for Oz, calling him “brilliant,” despite their contentious campaign. “The campaign turned out badly,” Fetterman noted, but added, “he’s definitely an excellent guy, and I had heart problems. There’s nothing wrong with having him operate on me.”

Reflecting on his health challenges, Fetterman mentioned, “I’ve had a near-death experience,” alluding to his stroke in May 2022. He remarked, “No, we don’t have any of that,” regarding the rough nature of political discourse. He described the escalating personal attacks in politics as troubling, saying, “It’s just in the wrong direction.”

The senator also criticized fellow Democrats for blocking a spending bill intended to fund the Department of Homeland Security. He expressed support for Operation Epic Fury, a military operation involving the U.S. and Israel aimed at the military forces in Iran. Additionally, he defended actions taken by the Trump administration against suspected drug traffickers and voiced support for voter ID laws, suggesting, “For me as a Democrat, it’s basically a very reasonable idea to show basic identification to vote.”

There is speculation that some left-wing Democrats may consider challenging Fetterman in the upcoming 2028 primary when he seeks re-election.
