In a recent event in Cleveland, it seems that a meteor may have caused a loud boom, as noted by the National Weather Service. Mitchell, an official with NWS, examined the GLM data and identified signs of activity around 9 AM local time.
Jared Lackey, a staff member from NWS Pittsburgh, captured footage that appears to show a meteor streaking across the sky. This video was shared by NWS Pittsburgh on their X account.
GLM, which tracks “total lightning,” including various forms of lightning activity throughout the Americas, collects numerous images each second.
As a related note, satellite data previously recorded a bolide meteor exploding near Florida’s Gulf Coast.
