Trump shares ‘STATEHOOD’ for Venezuela following WBC championship

Donald Trump announces Venezuela is freeing political prisoners

After Venezuela’s victory against the United States in the World Baseball Classic finals, President Trump stirred up reactions from American fans with a post on Truth Social. He exclaimed, “A nation!!!” which has sparked quite a debate among followers.

This message followed Venezuela’s semifinal win over Italy, where Trump teased that the victory could lead to statehood for Venezuela. “Wow! Tonight, Venezuela defeated Italy 4-2 in the WBC (baseball!) semifinals. They look really great. Good things are happening to Venezuela lately! What the hell is this magic? State, #51, anyone?” he commented on Monday night.

In a follow-up post, Trump reiterated his suggestion about statehood. Some supporters of Trump welcomed the bold idea, while others critiqued it. One user on X commented, “That’s a terrible idea that costs trillions of dollars. We can’t afford the 50 we have!” Another added, “That was just a baseball game. Just because you can say you won the World Baseball Classic doesn’t mean you have to make it a state!”

The United States started the year with military operations in Venezuela, which led to the occupation of the country. Nicolas Maduro and his wife faced federal charges related to weapons and drug terrorism. Since then, U.S.-Venezuela relations have improved somewhat, marked by the American flag being raised at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas for the first time in years.

However, Venezuela’s triumph might have frustrated some American baseball fans, as this marked their first WBC title. Star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. expressed the significance of the win, saying, “My country needs that championship… I just want to make my people proud. That’s what I did today.”

Venezuelan acting president Delcy Rodríguez has declared a day of national joy, making it a non-working holiday for all but essential workers. Captain Salvador Perez expressed the team’s bond, stating, “They were together in their hearts… when you play for your country, it goes beyond that. The emotion, the country you were born and raised in… that’s why this means so much to me and to Venezuela.”

Throughout the tournament, athletes emphasized their team spirit, likening it to family, as brothers Wilson and William Contreras accepted their medals and sang the Venezuelan anthem together.
