Illegal Immigrant Arrested in Hit-and-Run Death of Texas Deputy
An illegal immigrant has been taken into custody in connection with the hit-and-run death of a Texas sheriff’s deputy, according to reports. On Wednesday, the Department of Homeland Security announced that Dennis Arguello Acosta was arrested last Saturday.
Authorities allege that Arguello Acosta was the driver involved in the incident that killed Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Deputy Kenneth Lewis on February 21, fleeing the scene afterward.
Lauren Biss, Acting DHS Assistant Secretary, emphasized the tragedy of losing Deputy Lewis, stating, “He served his community honorably as a law enforcement officer, and he would still be with us today if it weren’t for this criminal illegal alien who never should have come to our country in the first place.” Biss also mentioned that ICE arrested Arguello-Acosta to ensure public safety and noted that under President Trump, illegal aliens committing crimes are not welcome.
According to DHS, a tipster had provided crucial information leading to Arguello Acosta’s arrest at his residence.
Deputy Lewis, 51, died two days after being hit on Interstate 10. At that moment, he was off-duty yet in uniform, having stopped to aid a driver involved in a collision. The authorities reported that he was engaged in rescue operations in a third vehicle during the incident.
Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan spoke highly of Lewis, saying, “A superhero is someone who thinks about others before themselves. And that’s what Deputy Lewis was doing.” He added that Lewis had put himself back on duty to assist someone in need.
Interestingly, this wasn’t the first incident where Lewis faced danger. Twelve years ago, while serving with the Missouri City Police Department, he nearly lost his life by jumping off a bridge to avoid an oncoming vehicle at an accident scene.
