Missing University Student in Barcelona
A 20-year-old student from the University of Alabama has been reported missing during a spring break trip to Barcelona, Spain.
James “Jimmy” Gracie was last seen at around 3 a.m. local time on Tuesday at the Shoko restaurant and nightclub. His family noted that he was wearing a white shirt, black pants, and a gold chain with a rhinestone cross. Jimmy stands about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs around 175 pounds.
He disappeared that night after his friend, who was studying abroad, left early. Jimmy chose to stay at the club alone.
“Jimmy is a kind, responsible, and devoted son and brother,” the family stated. “It’s very unusual for him not to be in contact with us.” They emphasized their gratitude for the support received from local authorities and the public, while requesting everyone to keep Jimmy in their thoughts as they seek to bring him home safely.
There was a sighting of Gracie before his disappearance, involving a brunette American woman, and authorities are currently trying to locate her.
Noreen Herron, a spokesperson for the Gracie family, mentioned that police had recovered Jimmy’s cellphone during the arrest of another individual.
Gracie, originally from Illinois, was visiting friends during spring break and didn’t return to his rental accommodation that morning.
His uncle, David Gracie, who is a senior producer at CNN, described Jimmy as an enthusiastic hockey player and a responsible individual who looks after his younger siblings. He also noted that Jimmy had a flight booked back to the U.S. on Saturday.
In addition, Gracie is known for being the pastor and philanthropic president of the Theta Chi fraternity chapter.
