FBI Prevents Terrorist Attacks

FBI Director Kash Patel announced on Wednesday that the agency successfully stopped four terrorist attacks in the U.S. last December, with three of these being linked to ISIS. This information came during a Senate Intelligence Community hearing on global threats.

When questioned by Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) about the FBI’s strategies against foreign terrorist groups that seek to recruit Americans online, Patel remarked that these organizations have gained significant strength by shifting their recruitment efforts to the internet.

He explained, “We have expanded our resources into environments like threat screening centers, which help us gather biometric data globally.” According to Patel, both the resources allocated and the agency’s overall information output have seen substantial increases.

He further stated that the FBI is enhancing its workforce to better identify potential threats online. “We’ve specifically increased the number of agents and intelligence analysts who monitor online activities, utilizing our biometric capabilities and interagency intelligence,” he said.

Patel confirmed that the FBI intercepted four planned attacks in December, occurring in states like California, Texas, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, highlighting that three were motivated by ISIS.

He mentioned that the FBI succeeded in detecting these individuals using covert platforms, allowing them to prevent a bombing plot meant for New Year’s Eve and two mass casualty events targeted in Southern California.

This session at the Senate hearing also included other notable figures, such as the Director of Defense Intelligence James Adams, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe.
