Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries criticizes Newsom regarding fraud in California

Bobsled Champion Expresses Concern Over California Fraud Allegations

Kylie Humphries, the celebrated bobsledder and a tax-paying resident of California, has voiced her dissatisfaction with Governor Gavin Newsom’s handling of recent fraud allegations in the state. This concern is heightened by the approaching 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

On Tuesday, Newsom faced criticism after publishing a response to investigative claims of fraud in California from independent journalist Nick Shirley. The post featured an AI-generated image of Shirley surrounded by cameras, saying, “Hey, can I meet your kids?”

Humphries shared her thoughts with FOX News Digital, emphasizing the potential ramifications for the 2028 Olympics. “As someone living in California, I’m really troubled by these reports of financial fraud and the lack of urgency from the governor. Besides the moral issues, the fact that this is happening in a state preparing to host such a major event is alarming. The Olympics require massive support from the government,” she mentioned.

She further noted the historical issues with fraud surrounding Olympic events globally, referencing the bribery scandal of the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics as a domestic example.

“Before we welcome the world to LA28, it’s crucial that California and its leaders, including Governor Newsom, thoroughly investigate these serious allegations. We need to ensure that taxpayer money used for the Games is accounted for,” Humphries stated.

In response to inquiries from FOX News Digital regarding Humphries’ comments, Newsom’s office issued a statement explaining that they typically do not engage with individuals who are not involved in the matter. It claimed that California is at the forefront of preventing fraud and misuse of funds, protecting billions designated for families and communities, and included a link to a state fraud prevention website.

Regarding her personal background, Humphries immigrated from Canada to San Diego in the late 2010s. She notably switched from representing Team Canada to Team USA, making history as the first female bobsledder to win gold medals for both teams, despite navigating difficult immigration processes.

Now a new mother in San Diego with her husband, Travis, Humphries recently disclosed to FOX News Digital her support for former President Donald Trump. She expressed her views on several topics, including protecting women’s sports and enhancing access to IVF. She defended the U.S. men’s hockey team amid left-leaning criticisms of its association with Trump.

Humphries had the opportunity to present President Trump with the Icos Medal during a Women’s History Month event last week, becoming the first U.S. Olympian to do so.

After revealing her political stance, she noted experiencing backlash, saying, “Some people disagreed, and they made their opinions known.” She acknowledged the charged atmosphere surrounding political discussions, stating, “People can get pretty emotional about politics, and that’s understandable. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs.” However, she wished things were less divided.
