Comey Subpoenaed in Investigation of Alleged Conspiracy Against Trump
Former FBI Director James Comey has been subpoenaed as part of an inquiry regarding a supposed “grand conspiracy” aimed at President Donald Trump.
This information has been confirmed by two sources familiar with the matter, as reported by Axios and NBC News. They also indicated that the investigation targets high-ranking officials from both the Biden and Obama administrations, with over 130 subpoenas issued to date.
The subpoena for Comey is said to connect to a controversial assessment of Russian election interference that was released in January 2017.
Jason Redding Quiñones, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, is leading this investigation into the alleged conspiracy.
In September 2025, Comey was indicted by a grand jury due to charges related to politically motivated misuse of his power.
“No one is above the law,” stated U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi following the indictment. “This indictment reflects our commitment to holding accountable anyone who misuses their power to mislead the American public. We will pursue the facts in this case.”
A previous ruling concerning Comey was overturned after a judge found that President Trump had improperly appointed his personal attorney, Lindsey Harrigan, as the interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia in November 2025. The Department of Justice has appealed this decision.
In May 2026, Comey posted a picture of a seashell on the beach that sparked media buzz, as many interpreted it as a veiled threat against Trump. Although Comey claimed he was unaware of how it could be viewed negatively, Trump responded, saying, “He knew exactly what it meant. Even a kid knows what that means. What if you’re the director of the FBI and you don’t know what that means? It means assassination.”
