Subpoenas Issued for NYC Socialist Politicians Over Alleged Islamophobic Comments
Four socialist politicians from New York City, known for their derogatory remarks about conservatives, have been ordered to testify about possible Islamophobic comments made by their Republican counterparts.
On Tuesday, attorneys for Rep. Vicki Palladino (R-Queens) issued subpoenas to Brooklyn officials—Chi Ose, Shahana Hanif, Sandy Nurse, and Tiffany Caban from Queens. They are required to appear in court on April 17 before Justice Sabrina Krauss, as per confidential legal documents seen by the media.
Palladino’s lawyer, Jim Walden, pointed out that these far-left politicians have a track record of making inflammatory statements against white people without facing repercussions, often labeling figures like President Trump, Republicans, and NYPD officers as “white supremacists” or “racists.”
Last month, Ose referred to Trump as a “pedophile,” mentioning his ties to Epstein’s files.
In another incident, Ose criticized a contractor at a City Council meeting, insisting that the owner’s Italian surname should have raised “red flags” regarding hiring them based on a past insurance fraud conviction.
The White House has labeled some of Ose’s statements as “egregious lies,” yet he has not been reprimanded by the City Council. An ethics complaint from former City Council Minority Leader Joe Borrelli (R-Staten Island) regarding Ose’s anti-Italian remarks also seemingly went nowhere.
The four mentioned politicians, along with others like Speaker Julie Menin of Manhattan and Alexa Aviles from Brooklyn, have been subpoenaed for all communications related to Palladino and her social media since November 15.
Additionally, Councilwoman Sandra Ng, who heads the Ethics Committee, has been ordered to provide records relating to a March 2 meeting that addressed Palladino’s comments, amid a push for “disorderly conduct” charges against her.
It’s important to note that failing to comply with a subpoena could result in fines or even jail time.
City Council spokesperson Yoav Gonen criticized the subpoena as “inappropriate,” indicating that the legal affairs department intends to dismiss it.
The Ethics Commission’s scrutiny of Palladino follows various incidents. Notably, after a terrorist attack in Australia, she called for the expulsion of Muslims from Western nations and voiced skepticism over the citizenship of newly appointed officials by questioning “Are there any real Americans in this administration?”
Former City Councilman Robert Holden, a conservative Democrat from Queens, submitted an affidavit asserting that it would be both “unprecedented and hypocritical” to penalize Palladino for her comments, attributing the actions against her to “malice and political retribution.”
Holden emphasized that other council members have made equally, if not more, offensive comments on social media without consequence.
Remarkably, the only City Council member expelled to date was Andy King of the Bronx, who faced ethics charges for misuse of funds.
Palladino’s attorney, Walden, expressed optimism for the upcoming court case, suggesting that it would reveal inconsistencies and hypocrisy surrounding the current actions against her.
