DeSantis leaves the door open for a 2028 presidential campaign: 'We'll see'

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis didn’t dismiss the possibility of running for the presidency again during a recent chat with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

When Hannity pressed him on whether he would seek the White House again, DeSantis replied, “Let’s wait and see.”

At 47, he faces term limits and is set to leave office in January 2027, just ahead of the 2028 presidential primary season.

The governor was once viewed as a strong contender to step in for Donald Trump in the 2024 Republican primary but exited the race shortly after placing second in the Iowa caucuses.

In that Iowa contest, Trump outperformed DeSantis by roughly 30 points.

DeSantis believes that if Trump hadn’t entered the 2024 race, he would have garnered the majority of Trump supporters.

“In 2024, just like in Iowa, the people who voted for Mr. Trump would have gotten about 90% of what they would have if he hadn’t been running,” DeSantis mentioned during his appearance on the “Hangout with Sean Hannity” podcast.

He continued, “They were conservative voters, right? They didn’t want someone non-conservative; they wanted me.”

“Clearly, the timing wasn’t right for that one,” he added.

Current polling for the 2028 Republican presidential primary shows Vice President J.D. Vance leading the pack.

An Echelon Insights survey from last week reported that Vance holds a 40% approval rating.

Following him, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is in second place with 16% support.

DeSantis finds himself with a mere 5% approval rating, just above Donald Trump Jr., who has 9% support.

A St. Anselm University Research Center poll indicated that in New Hampshire, DeSantis is similarly at 5%, tied with former Governor Nikki Haley.

According to another poll released Monday, Vance remains the preferred candidate among New Hampshire Republicans with 46% support, while Rubio has 27%.

Hannity’s complete interview with DeSantis is scheduled to air on Tuesday.
